World Bank Conference on Land and Poverty 2015
Linking Land Tenure and Use for Shared Prosperity, Washington DC, USA.
- Presentation given by Arnulf Christl on: Standard Open Source Software for the Social Tenure Domain Model Tool (see World Bank Link).
- The presentation starts off by showing the positive impact of using standards-based Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) software for the implementation of the tools required by the Social Tenure Domain Model (STDM). The development of the STDM software tools started with the desktop GIS QGIS and a focus on offline data acquisition with low hardware requirements. The architecture was designed to be highly scalable right from the start. The data has been modelled to live on a Postgres database with PostGIS extension which can be used on a standalone low spec laptop but also in a highly scalable server environment. The next phase of the project will focus on also leveraging web based tools to complement the solid and stable standalone core. All bindings in the system are standardized around W3C and OGC interfaces and data specifications making the system modular and extensible. In the outlook we will highlight the technical roadmap and how it is interweaved with social networks to establish an environment that will allow user groups to directly interact with the project. In the long run this will be the means to attract sponsors and fund developers to support the sustainable growth of the project.
